Mixing High & Low Price Points

March 18, 2017 by Michelle Hartenstein Leave a Comment

One thing I love to incorporate into my wardrobe is to combine high and low price point items. This allows me to save and invest in pieces I want for my style collection for years to come, but to still be able to stay current when trendy pieces come that I want to intermix into my wardrobe only for a few seasons. By combining high and low price point items into your wardrobe it can make your outfits seem very on trend and current without always breaking the bank.
Now, this might look different for everyone. When I work with my Personal Stylist clients, one of the things we do is talk budget. No matter if your budget is quite large or seemingly small to you, you should always set a budget on how much you want to spend. This could be for the year or per season. Once you have established your budget the next step is to figure out what pieces you NEED, which pieces you WANT and what piece (or pieces) you would like to INVEST in.
Here are 2 examples of what your budget might look like (examples could be done as yearly or seasonally) –
Example 1: 30% of budget will be spent on lower price point seasonal on trend pieces/20% of budget will be spent on investment pieces to add to your wardrobe (this could include handbags or accessories, anything you would consider an investment)/20% of budget will be spent on shoes/20% of budget will be spent on accessories (this could include handbags)/10% of budget will be spent on beauty.
Example 2: 20% of budget will be spent on lower price point seasonal on trend pieces/40% of budget will be spent on investment pieces to add to your wardrobe (this could include handbags or accessories, anything you would consider an investment)/10% of budget will be spent on shoes/10% of budget will be spent on accessories (this could include handbags)/20% of budget will be spent on beauty.
For the outfit I have shown in this post I have invested in the Women’s Mother Super Ex’s Crop Denim Shirt, the Women’s Joie Park Skinny Pants and the Sunglasses. The on-trend seasonal pieces I have added to my investment pieces are this Chaser band Tee (under $50), who what wear – mini bag ($25), hoop earrings (only $12!) and Women’s Lucky Brand Breeza Perforated Bootie (under $100). By combining high and low price points I have created a very chic and on-trend outfit with pieces I will be able to mix and match into my wardrobe for this season and some items for seasons to come.
As you scroll through this post I have added several link-able pictures of pieces that are a mix of high and low price points to give you options and ideas for your own wardrobe!
