As we are coming into the time of year where layers are essential, one way to easily add an additional layer to your outfit is by adding a blazer. A blazer adds the perfect amount of structure to an outfit, no matter how many layers you wear underneath. It also creates a defined waistline to help give you the illusion of an hour-glass shape, which we all love.
I am not a person who follows all the trends, but one trend for the 2107 winter season, albeit timeless in my opinion, that I am in deep with is the Velvet trend. I have always and will probably always love anything velvet. The good news is that Velvet is not only for the Holidays, but it is actually a trend you can carry through the entire season, which will be very easy for me to do with this velvet blazer. It is not only gorgeous, but seriously comfortable and not restrictive in any way. That is very important to me with my job and with kids. I need to be able to move around easily and this blazer allows for that.
I am truly a sucker for anything velvet. Anyone else in the same boat with me?! When I was younger I would gravitate toward velvet within my ever evolving young girl style. I had velvet dresses (nothing too frilly or twirly mind you, but simple and elegant was more my style), jumpers, “dressy shorts” (the ones you could add adorable tights underneath:), but one of my most favorite velvet pieces was this stunning pair of black velvet Marry Jane’s that my mom bought for me. I took such good care of those shoes; I even saved them when my feet grew because I couldn’t bare the thought of getting rid of them! So needless to say, this season I went all out in velvet mode.
I chose to pair this blazer with more of a statement top, lighter wash jean, matching heels and a leopard print clutch to tie the entire outfit together. I love this lighter wash pair of MOTHER jeans with the frayed hem and button fly. It sits at your true waist, but isn’t a high rise jean, which I love how flattering it looks on almost all body types. I also think if you sized up one size on these jeans it would be a cute look as well. This would give you more of a slim boyfriend feel to your outfit. This Alice + Olivia top is so fun and playful, but does not get washed away by the rich bold color of the blazer. When pairing the two together, I really wanted two pieces that could stand on their own. I didn’t just want a basic white blouse, I wanted something that had a little edge, but was sophisticated as well. This way I could really demonstrate how this outfit could work for your #ootd or your #ootn. And let’s be honest whenever you can do that it’s amazing.
One thing I like to remember about velvet is how adaptable and timeless it is. I love how elegant or edgy it can make an outfit look and feel. The best news of all is that you don’t need to save velvet for only special occasions, but wear it for all occasions. It is easily transitional from day to night; for example: wear the exact outfit from this post for a date night, night out with girlfriends, depending on where you work it might be very appropriate for work wear, but if you work in a more business or business casual type setting swap the denim out for a pencil skirt and tights. A super easy day to night look!
I hope you are enjoying velvet this season as much as I am! Happy Thursday; I hope you have a wonderful rest of the week:)
